Naxos
is one of the cycladic islands that combine intense
and quiet nightlife the same time. There are bars
and clubs if you feel like dancing but also cafeterias
and gellaterias if you want a pleasant time with
your family. Good restaurants and taverns are
spread all over the island. Greek cuisine but
also Italian, Mexican and Indian tastes will make
you and your stomach happy. Traditional or more
sophisticated the options for a meal are many.
By the beach, in a village or in the old town
all you need is a great hunger. If you are fans
of live music then you will like the restaurants
that offer this option.
It will be a neglection from
your side if you come to Naxos and not taste the
local cuisine. Naxos has plenty of traditional
Greek restaurants, but also Chinese, Thai, Italian
and Mexican restaurants. Most of them are in Paralia,
Agia Anna and Agios Prokopios. Good restaurants
you can also find in the villages.
The great music tradition of
this place extends from the ancient times until
now. In Naxos there are a lot of places to hear
traditional Greek music. There are also a lot
of festivals during the summer where with the
violin, the lute and the other traditional musical
instruments and, of course with the local wine
and the local food it is sure that you will forget
all your worries and you will enjoy yourself with
a lot of dance and song.
The greatest event though is the one where the
municipality of Naxos organizes every year. This
is Dionysia. This festival is dedicated to the
ancient god of wine and joy Dionysos, who also
lived in Naxos. It starts every year at the end
of June until the beginning of September. Summer
nights with traditional music are organized where
wine and food is offered.
